Active Perception of Deformable Objects using 3D Cameras
Perception and manipulation of rigid objects has received a lot of attention, and several solutions have been proposed. In contrast, dealing with deformable objects is a relatively new and challenging task because they are more complex to model, their state is difficult to determine, and self-occlusions are common and hard to estimate. In this paper we present our progress/results in the percep...
متن کاملOn the thermocapillary motion of deformable droplets
In studies on Marangoni type motion of particles the surface tension is often approximated as a linear function of temperature. For deformable particles in a linear external temperature gradient far from the reference point this approximation yields a negative surface tension which is physically unrealistic. It is shown that H. Zhou and R. H. Davis (J. Colloid Interface Sci., 181, 60, (1996)) p...
متن کاملDeformable liquid droplets for optical beam control.
We demonstrate a liquid droplet whose surface profile can be reshaped by voltage. As the dielectric force increases, the dome of a liquid droplet could touch the top substrate and become flat. While the voltage is removed, the droplet recovers to its original spherical shape. By choosing proper liquids, the required voltage for such a shape change is relatively low and the transition speed is f...
متن کامل3D Deformable Hand Models
We are interested in producing a 3D deformable model of the human hand, for use in a tracking application. Statistical methods can be used to build such a model from a set of training examples; however, a key requirement for this is the collection of landmark coordinate data from these training examples. To produce a good model, hundreds of landmarks are required from each example; collecting t...
متن کاملActive Deformable Part Models
This paper presents an active approach for part-based object detection, which optimizes the order of part filter evaluations and the time at which to stop and make a prediction. Statistics, describing the part responses, are learned from training data and are used to formalize the part scheduling problem as an offline optimization. Dynamic programming is applied to obtain a policy, which balanc...
